Consumer monetization & growth leader

I help consumer companies grow.

As your fractional Head of Growth.

I'm Sven Ahrens. Eight years scaling Spotify, former CEO of Yousician, angel in 20+ consumer startups. I know what works at a hundred million subscribers – and I still like to build it myself. Bias for action: we make the hard call, then we move it.

Open to: fractional, board and advisory work, or the right full-time seat.

Five ways to engage

One honest conversation or a full-time seat: same depth, same hands on the work.

Lead it: full-time, interim, or fractional

I step in as your Growth, Product, Regional or Business Unit leader and run it. Full-time for the right company, interim while you hire, fractional for as long as it works. Senior leader and player-coach from day one.

Run the team

I take the team you already have and get it shipping again: focused, accountable, clear on what moves the business.

Fire-fighter

Something is burning. I drop in, diagnose fast, stop the bleeding – and stay with your team until it holds.

Board member or observer

A seat at the table for the long game: the consumer monetization and growth POV on pricing, retention and packaging – the decisions that compound.

Advisor or sounding board

For founders and seasoned leaders with a hard call to make. Candid, fast, biased toward action. No deck needed. References: founders I've worked with, on request.

About

One of Europe's top consumer monetization and growth leaders – and I still roll up my sleeves.

Eight years inside Spotify through the hyper-growth era, most recently as Director of Global Growth – my team drove 60%+ of Spotify's subscriber growth. 2025 to 2026: CEO of Yousician, the company behind Yousician and GuitarTuna, 20+ million monthly actives. Through Newconic Ventures I back consumer, prosumer, AI and subscription startups across Europe and the US.

The common thread: people. I've been to 75+ countries and I read people across cultures. That instinct turns into results through relentless research and A/B testing on hundreds of millions of users.

AI-forward in practice: I ship my own products, trainwithkalle.com and trainingzones.app, and I know how to get a whole company behind an AI transformation, past the pilot. I've grown products at hundred-million-subscriber scale and from zero, so I know which playbook applies when.

Common questions

What do you actually do?
Fractional or interim leader for growth, product, a region or a business unit. I run teams and get them shipping, I sit on boards, I advise founders on hard calls. Heavy operating or light advisory, whatever the situation needs. Always: consumer monetization and growth, with a bias for action.
What are you best at?
Turning early consumer traction into durable, compounding revenue: lifecycle and habit, pricing, monetization and packaging, multi-channel conversion, retention cohorts, internationalization. Learned at hundred-million-subscriber scale at Spotify, applied from zero ever since.
Who do you work with?
Consumer and prosumer companies with growth problems on more than one front: product, monetization, user acquisition, culture, leadership. Companies in the middle of an AI transformation. Pre-seed founders to seasoned leadership teams. If your growth depends on people paying you again and again, that's my world.
Are you open to a full-time role?
Yes, for the right company. I'm selective, but the right mission, team and mandate would win, and I'd go all in. The rest of the time I run a few fractional, board and advisory engagements at once. Either way: book a call and make the case.
What is Newconic Ventures?
My angel and advisory vehicle since 2019. Pre-seed and seed checks into consumer, prosumer, AI and subscription startups across the EU and US, 20+ so far. Two exits: Butter to Miro, Petli to Agria. Advisory: Peloton, Knowunity, Kittl.
Where are you based?
Berlin. Native German, fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. I've worked in Berlin, Stockholm, New York and Helsinki, plus pretty much every major city in the world. I travel a lot: 75 countries so far.
How do we start?

A full-time leader, an operator for the next six months, a board member for the next six years, or one honest conversation this week – the door is open. Founders, operators, investors, recruiters and journalists all start the same way.
